PSA: Book your movers for a weekend in late September, not the last week of the month
We tried to move on Sept 28th last year and every single company in the city quoted us $900+ more because of end-of-month lease turnover. Ended up going with a Tuesday the 17th and paid $540 flat for a 2 bedroom in Lakeview. Has anyone else noticed that mid-month slots are way cheaper or did we just get lucky?

Oh boy, the end of the month moving tax is real. We got quoted $1,100 for a one bedroom on the 30th and the guy on the phone actually laughed when I asked if there was any wiggle room. Booked it for a Wednesday two weeks earlier instead and paid $480, same truck, same guys, same amount of furniture. The whole thing is just supply and demand doing its thing, and landlords set it up so everyone's lease ends on the same day. You didn't get lucky, you just found out the secret the rest of us learn the hard way.
