River North vs Logan Square apartments: my winter comparison

I looked at two apartments in December, one in River North for $1800 and one in Logan Square for $1350. The River North place had a gym and doorman but the train noise was constant, even on the 8th floor. Logan Square was quieter, had a bigger kitchen, and I could walk to three grocery stores. The extra $450 a month wasn't worth it for me since I work from home and need quiet. Has anyone else found that neighborhoods feel totally different depending on the season you tour them?

Did you see that article about how noise transfers differently in cold weather vs summer?

I toured a place in Lakeview last February and the heat was broken, so I couldn't tell if it was just cold or actually drafty. The landlord kept saying it would get fixed but I walked away because the whole vibe felt off in that freezing weather. It really does change how you see a place depending on what season you visit.
