Hot take: Costa Rica showed me vacation can be green and fun
We stayed at a lodge that runs on solar power and collects all its own rainwater. Every tour was led by locals who taught us about forest conservation and wildlife protection. All the meals used ingredients from farms right in the area, which really cuts down on fuel use for shipping. It was a cool way to see that having a good time doesn't have to hurt the planet.

Sounds nice but does one trip really move the needle. Big factories and cargo ships pollute way more in a day than your vacation saved. It's good to be mindful but let's keep it in perspective.

Totally agree, individual steps seem tiny next to industrial output. Had a similar wake-up call after sorting recycling for weeks, then seeing a factory plume. It's good to do your part, but realism doesn't hurt.

Grant_fisher's point on cargo ships stuck with me. I visited a port city last year and saw one unloading. The ship was taller than my apartment building. Really shows how much stuff gets moved around for us.
