TIL the guy at my nephew's soccer game called a canceled YouTuber 'rich and dead' and it made me rethink apologies
So I'm sitting on a folding chair in Fresno last Saturday watching my nephew's under-12 game, and this dad next to me starts scrolling on his phone and goes 'oh look, he's crying again.' He was watching some influencer's apology video, the one from two weeks back with the black hoodie and the little notebook. I asked him why he even cared and he goes 'I don't, but I like watching rich and dead people try to talk their way out.' That line stuck with me all week, because it basically sums up the whole apology video genre to me now. The guy wasn't even mad, he just wanted the guy to sweat and then vanish. I realized most of us don't want a comeback, we want the disappearance. It's like the only good ending for a canceled creator is them logging off and never posting again, and anything less feels like a cheat. Is it just me or has the apology video stopped working as a thing people forgive, and turned into a thing people just collect like bad movies?
