Hot take: I stopped assuming the first part off a new program was good to go
I used to run the first piece from a fresh program and call it done if it looked okay... saved time on checks. Then a whole batch had a hidden depth error because I didn't measure after the initial cut. Now I always probe the first piece fully, even if it slows me down... what habit shift saved your bacon recently?

Our shop's old saying: trust but verify.

Solid saying, and it works because blind trust gets you burned every time. That check step saves a lot of headaches down the road. It's just good practice for anything, really.

Totally get that saying. It's saved me more than once, like when I lent my car to a friend and double-checked the insurance was up to date. That little step avoided a huge mess later. Really is the best way to handle things without being paranoid.
