Rant: A 20 year toolmaker told me my speeds were too scared and he was right

I've been running CNC for about 7 years now, mostly medical parts. A few weeks ago a veteran operator, 30 years in the trade, came over to my machine during a break. He looked at my toolpath and said I was running too careful, too slow, wasting time. He showed me on the control how to check the tool load meter, then bumped my feed up 40 percent and told me to watch the spindle load stop climbing. It didn't, and the part came out cleaner than my old settings. Now I'm checking load on every op before I keep the speed down. Has anyone else had a similar wake up call from a seasoned machinist, and how much time did it actually save you per part?

Did you actually measure the cycle time drop, or just feel like it was faster? Curious if I should bother timing mine or just trust the load meter.
