That old machinist in Dayton showed me his touch-off routine and I felt stupid for 8 years
Met a retired guy at a shop in Dayton last month who ran a Bridgeport before I was born. He watched me edge find a part for like 5 minutes and just said, 'you're overthinking the spindle, kid.' He showed me a light touch with a .001 shim and a steady hand that took half the time. Now I use that method on our Haas VF-2 whenever I can and it's been spot on every time. Has anyone else picked up a habit from an older operator that just clicked immediately?
