TIL that switching from watching tutorials to typing code from scratch for 15 minutes a day finally got loops to click after 4 months of being stuck
I spent my first 4 months learning Python just watching YouTube videos and copying what people typed, and I honestly felt like I was getting it, but every time I sat down with a blank file my brain just froze. About 6 weeks ago I read a comment on here that said close the video and retype the whole thing from memory, so I tried it even though it felt dumb. The first week was rough, I couldn't even write a basic for loop without peeking, and I got so mad I almost quit. But by week three something shifted, and last Tuesday I built a little guessing game with a while loop all by myself in about 20 minutes, no video, no copying. Seeing that blank file turn into something that actually ran was a way bigger deal than finishing any tutorial. Now I do 15 minutes of typing from memory before I watch anything new. Has anyone else tried the no-video thing, and did it take you a while to see a difference or was it fast?
