When I started coding in 2019, every tutorial told me to write everything from scratch, now AI autocomplete does half my typing and I can't tell if that's good
Back in 2019 when I first opened a code editor, every single beginner guide said the same thing. Type every line yourself, don't copy paste, struggle through the errors or you'll never learn. I did that for about 8 months on a little weather app project in my apartment in Boise, and it worked, stuff stuck in my brain. Now I open the same editor and it's suggesting whole functions before I finish typing the name. My nephew started learning Python 3 months ago and he leans on that autocomplete for everything. I sat with him last weekend and asked him to write a simple loop without it, and he froze for like 2 minutes. Not saying he's doomed, but the path in looks so different now. Has anyone here learned recently and felt like the autocomplete helped more than it hurt?
