Can we talk about the great coffee scale debate?

I was at a friend's house in Austin trying to dial in a new light roast. My cheap scale died mid pour over. Had to eyeball the rest of the water. The coffee tasted totally off, thin and sour. Do you think a good scale is a must have or can you get by without one?

Watched my buddy try to brew by volume once, swore he'd never skip the scale again. It just makes everything way more repeatable.

Oh man, that exact thing happened to me last month. I read a piece from a roaster who said a scale is the single best upgrade after a decent grinder, even over a fancy kettle. It's not just about weight, it's about timing your pours. Without it, you're basically guessing and every cup will be different.

Can confirm, my scale changed the whole game.
