Diving the Chesapeake last month, used a 2 inch PVC pipe as a makeshift jet probe to clear mud

Had a job where the bottom was too soft for the usual airlift, so I jammed a 2 inch PVC pipe down and ran a small trash pump through it. Cleared 8 feet of mud in about 20 minutes. Anyone else tried this or got a better trick for mucky bottoms?
