Hit 1,000 feet deep last month - is that a big deal or just another Tuesday?
I got my first real deep dive in the Gulf of Mexico and broke 1,000 feet on a pipeline inspection. Some guys say that's nothing compared to sat diving, but it felt huge to me. What's your take - does hitting a milestone depth actually matter in this trade?

Grabbed my first 1,000 footer last year off Louisiana coast and my lead diver just laughed at me. Said he hit 1,500 feet on a saturation dive back in the 80s and they couldn't even feel the pressure because the mixture was so dialed in. Then he told me about the time he had to cut a tangled cable at 1,200 feet with a hacksaw for 45 minutes straight. Made my milestone feel like a kiddie pool.

Man, I gotta ask - is 1,000 feet really some kind of kiddie pool achievement? Sounds like you got the job done and came back safe. That old timer probably has a story for every depth, but who's counting? I mean, 45 minutes hacking at a cable at 1,200 feet sounds like a nightmare, not a flex. Maybe he just likes making everyone feel small so his own stories sound bigger.
