Noticing mixed-gas on every job site has me puzzled

I've seen mixed-gas setups a lot more often on recent jobs. For example, on a pipeline check at 40 meters, the whole crew was using trimix. Why is this happening now? I recall when air was common for dives under 50 meters. It seems like every project requires special gas blends these days. Is this because of new safety rules or just being extra careful? I support safety, but I wonder if it's always needed.

It's not just about following rules, is it? If a simple mistake means losing a tool or missing a valve, you need everyone thinking clear. Maybe the jobs themselves have gotten more fiddly.

Last year at a conference, they said research on diver alertness changed the game. Like, even at 40 meters, air can make you fuzzy, so trimix keeps the team sharp. It might not be a hard rule but a best practice shift. I mean, it makes sense if the job has lots of valves or gauges to check.

Wait, @ruby_lopez, so trimix fixes the air making you dumb?
