Rant: I switched to a cheap dive light on a hunch and my bottom times got better
I do mostly shallow harbor work around Baltimore and for years I ran the same fancy light everyone else on the crew uses. Last winter mine died on a job so I grabbed a $45 backup off the truck just to finish the day, and I noticed I was actually seeing the bottom better because the beam was wider instead of that tight hotspot. I kept using it for the next three weeks on a pier repair, and my air consumption dropped enough that I was getting about 10 extra minutes down per shift. I told my supervisor and he laughed, then borrowed it for a pipe inspection and didn't give it back. Now I have two of them and the expensive one sits in my garage. Has anyone else had a cheap piece of gear actually outperform the good stuff, or am I just getting lucky with my eyes adjusting?
