Tried both a wet bell and a closed bell on the same job in Galveston, and I know which one I want from now on
We had a pipeline job in Galveston and the company brought in a closed bell setup for the deep section while the shallow part ran off a wet bell, so I got time in both over about 6 days. The closed bell meant I could stay dry and warm down at depth, and my hands actually worked on the bolts the whole shift instead of going numb after an hour. The wet bell crew was fighting the current and burning through their bottom time way faster, and we had two guys come up shivering even with hot water suits. For anyone who has run both, is it just me or does the closed bell pay for itself on any job past 30 meters, or does it depend on the site?
