Found out my USB polarity trick was killing ports, and now I wonder if I was right all along
Came across a bunch of dead front panel USB ports at the middle school lab last month and traced it back to me reversing the header pinout on purpose for years, thinking it "didn't matter" since USB negotiates. A retired engineer at the parts counter in Reno glanced at my harness and just said "ground's not optional, buddy," which made me rethink every build I've touched since 2019. So do you all stick strictly to the pinout, or is there a defensible reason to flip anything for clearance or cable routing?
