That time a sudden rainstorm hit a fresh pour in Eugene

We were finishing a 20 yard driveway slab when the sky opened up halfway through the bull float. I grabbed every tarp and plastic sheet from the truck and we covered it as fast as we could, then had to wait two hours for the rain to stop before we could carefully pull the covers and finish the edges. What's your go-to move when the weather turns on you like that?

Oh man, "sky opened up halfway through the bull float" is the worst feeling. My go-to move is a frantic, sloppy dance of grabbing whatever's nearby. I've used the floor mats from my truck, a stack of empty cement bags, even a buddy's rain jacket once. It never looks good and you just pray it doesn't ruin the finish. Usually ends with me soaked and laughing at the mess.

lol that "frantic sloppy dance" is too real @wood.avery. i saw a video once where a guy said any cloth just sucks the water in and makes rings. the plastic sheet trick sounds way smarter.

Remember reading that using anything absorbent like empty bags or cloth can pull water right into the surface. @wood.avery, that rain jacket might have done more harm than good. We keep a roll of 6-mil poly in the truck just for this, because it sheds water without sticking. The key is getting it down fast and keeping it from touching the finish. A few old 2x4 scraps as tent poles under the plastic can save a whole pour.
