Vent: that debate about broom finishes at the supply shop Tuesday really got me
Guy at the counter goes "broom finish is for amateurs who can't trowel" like it's some kind of insult. I've been doing driveways in Phoenix for 12 years and some clients literally ask for that texture so they don't slip when it's 110 out. He said he's never done a broom job in 20 years of finishing. Told him maybe he just works indoors. Has anyone else run into this kind of gatekeeping over basic techniques?

Oh man, that guy sounds like a total snob. I've been doing this type of work for years too and broom finishes are totally legit. Clients in hot climates need that grip, it's not just some amateur shortcut. Some folks act like there's only one right way to do a job and everything else is beneath them. They're missing the point that good work means giving people what they actually need and want.

Hang on though, Phoenix summers are brutal but a broom finish isn't just about heat. It's actually the texture that gives you traction when it's wet too.
