Watched a 20 year old slab turn to dust after a bad pressure wash

Was doing a driveway in Phoenix last month and the owner asked if I could touch up the pad from 2005. Looked fine from the street but once the power washer hit it, the cream just peeled off like sunburned skin. Turns out a handyman had sealed it with some cheap acrylic back in 2019 and it trapped moisture. The whole thing spalled out in a 4x4 section before I could even grab my grinder. Anyone else run into mystery coatings that wreck a good slab?
