Debating 9/11 with my coworker for 2 hours made me realize I argue with emotions not facts
Me and this guy Dave at work got into it about building 7 for like 2 hours last Tuesday and I was pulling up stuff on my phone the whole time. He finally stopped me and said "you're not listening, you're just waiting to talk" and honestly that hit hard. So now before I jump into any debate on here I write down the other person's main point in one sentence and repeat it back to them first. It sounds dumb but it cut my arguing time in half and people actually stick around to talk now. Anyone else try something like this or do you just go straight into it?
Man that Dave sounds like a solid guy for calling it straight instead of just walking off. I've been guilty of the same thing, sitting there loading up my next point while the other person is still talking. That repeat-back trick is smart and I'm gonna steal it.
