My GPS tracked the excavator into a coffee shop bathroom
Last Tuesday in Reno, our fleet tracker showed the CAT 305.5 parked inside a Starbucks for 45 minutes, which was odd because the operator swore he was on-site. Turns out the Bluetooth beacon on the machine connected to my phone when I walked in for a cortado, so the software logged the excavator's location as the restroom. I spent an hour in IT trying to override the ping before realizing I could just turn off my own location sharing. Has anyone else had a device on the job get hijacked by a personal phone signal, or is this just my luck?

Wait, the excavator's Bluetooth beacon is strong enough to ping from the bathroom? That thing must have a signal like a lighthouse. I've had my truck's dashboard unit pick up my phone in the passenger seat, but never a piece of heavy equipment from across a store. Honestly, the fact that your own phone hijacked the machine's location is both hilarious and a little terrifying for anyone running a fleet. Those trackers are supposed to be dumb, not social.
