TIL most new stylists I train are mixing their lightener too thick and blaming the brand
I've been doing hair 14 years and I keep seeing this with every new assistant who comes through our salon in Sacramento. They scoop bleach and pour 20 volume straight in without measuring, then wonder why it swells up and dries before they finish foiling. Last Tuesday one of them used maybe 30ml of developer for 4 scoops of powder and the whole bowl turned into cement in 6 minutes. I made her redo the same section with a 1 to 1.5 ratio and it stayed creamy the whole time. Anyone else have a trick for teaching consistency that actually sticks?
Oh man I used to blame whatever bleach we had in the back room for years until someone made me actually weigh my powder and measure my developer. Turns out my "bad batch" was just me free pouring like an idiot, and once I fixed the ratio my foils stopped drying out mid section.
