Finally switched from coax compression to crimp connectors for RG6

After 8 years of using compression fittings on every job, I decided to give crimp connectors a try on a new build in Austin last week. My buddy swears by them and kept telling me I was wasting time with the compression tool. I was skeptical at first, but after 50 terminations, I noticed the crimp connectors held tighter and took about 15 seconds less per end. No signal loss issues so far on the three test runs I checked with the meter. Has anyone else made this switch and stuck with it long term?

Used to swear by lacquer thinner for cleaning guns, now I won't touch the stuff.

A painter in Denver showed me how it was eating away the plastic caps on our mix cups after a $200 batch went bad. Switched to acetone last month and haven't had a single issue since. Anyone else ditch lacquer thinner after a nasty surprise?

Tried writing a horror story from a teddy bear's point of view

I thought it would be cute and creepy, but 3 paragraphs in I realized the bear was just narrating dust particles on a shelf. What worked for me was switching to the bear watching a kid have nightmares, that gave it real tension. Any tips for keeping a non-human narrator from getting boring?

Had to pick between a hardwired system and a wireless one for an old house in Pittsburgh

I just took on a job for this 1920s row house in Pittsburgh with plaster walls that are basically armor. The customer wanted a full alarm setup but didn't want me cutting into their vintage trim. I went back and forth on whether to run hardwired sensors through the basement and attic or just go with a wireless system from a brand I usually trust. Ended up picking the wireless option because it saved me from dealing with all that lath and plaster dust. The install went smooth for the first two floors, but I hit a snag with the third floor where the signal kept dropping through all that old horsehair insulation. Had to add a repeater up there to get things stable. Anyone else run into weird signal issues with wireless in old buildings?

Took me 5 years to figure out I was packing my bear can wrong

Last summer on the Uinta Highline Trail, I stopped to dig out my dinner and realized I had to unpack half my bag to get to the bear can. It was buried under everything because I always put it in first. A guy I met at the trailhead near Kamas said he puts his can in sideways at the bottom, then layers his tent and clothes above it. That one tip saved me 15 minutes of digging every night for the rest of the trip. How do you all pack your can without losing your mind over access?

I finally switched from a 3/8 to a 1/2 inch collet for my roughing endmills

I always thought the smaller collet was fine for hogging out aluminum, but after a job in Cincinnati where I kept getting chatter, the shop foreman told me to try the bigger one. The difference was night and day, way less vibration and I could push the feed harder. Has anyone else made a simple tool change that fixed a stubborn problem?

I dropped $800 on a 'career accelerator' course that was basically a rehash of free YouTube videos.

I saw an ad for this online program promising to teach 'advanced networking strategies' and 'personal branding secrets' for a new industry I wanted to break into. The sales page made it sound like insider knowledge, so I paid the fee last fall. The course videos were just generic advice I'd already seen for free, and the 'exclusive' Facebook group was dead. I feel like I paid for a fancy wrapper around common sense. Has anyone found a paid course that was actually worth the money, or should we all just stick to free resources?
