Watching a new operator on a 250-ton crawler last month versus now shows how much a good mentor matters.

After 90 days of daily shadowing with our lead op, his load swing went from a 6-foot drift to a dead stop within inches, just from learning to read the cable angle instead of staring at the hook.

You ever see a guy just staring at the hook like it's gonna tell him the meaning of life? That's the difference between moving dirt and actually knowing what you're doing. A good mentor doesn't just show you the controls, they show you what to actually look at. It's wild how something as simple as watching the cable can change everything. Some people never get that lesson and just fight the machine forever.
