My last "weird" idea was a detective who was also a sentient toaster. It did not go well.

That sentient toaster detective idea actually sounds kind of great. Like, it solves crimes by reading the psychic imprints left on bread. The real problem is the romance genre, appliances just don't have the right parts for a believable meet-cute. Miles should stick to toaster noir, way more potential there.
