The 2016 beach photo filter fight: Toon or no filter, which one aged worse?
Ok so I was scrolling back through my old Facebook pics from a trip to Myrtle Beach in 2016 and I hit this wall of photos I posted with that cartoon face filter Snapchat had. My sister and I made a pact to use it on every single pic from that weekend because we thought it looked hilarious and artsy. 47 photos. Every one of them. No beach, no sunset, just giant anime eyes and a smooth pink face over my real one. So here is the debate I want settled: which choice ages worse, slapping a cartoon filter on everything or just posting the raw unfiltered pic with zero edits. My argument is the cartoon one is brutal because you erased the actual memory, like I cannot even tell which day was which. My sister swears the no filter pics from 2013 are worse because of the yellow overhead lighting and how tired we look. I genuinely cannot decide and I've been laughing at both folders for an hour. Which one makes you cringe harder when you scroll back, the filters or the raw honest shots?
Laughing at your post because I did the EXACT same thing on a cruise in 2016. That dog ear filter, the one with the floppy ears and tongue, on every dinner photo for 7 straight nights. My mom still has them framed in her hallway. What really kills me is I can't remember what the actual dining room looked like or what we ate, just a wall of cartoon ears over everyone's faces. Meanwhile the raw pics from my cousin's wedding in 2011 have that harsh flash and everyone's shiny and blinking, but at least I know who was there and what the room looked like. So yeah, I'm with you. The filters win the cringe contest by a mile, because you didn't just make yourself look silly, you deleted the whole trip.
