I was putting the vapor barrier on the wrong side of the insulation for years until a guy in Maine asked me why.

That "guy in Maine" thing is so real. My buddy did his whole garage the wrong way, vapor barrier facing out, because that's how his dad always did it. He had to strip it all out after a winter where the inside walls were literally wet to the touch. Cost him a whole weekend and a bunch of fresh insulation.

Yeah, my cousin did the same thing in his basement. Reminds me of what @the_holly said, just a total mess of mold and wasted money.
