Warning: That cheap $25 basket from Amazon ruined my whole batch of wings

Honestly, I thought I was saving money buying a no-name fryer basket for $25 instead of spending $50 on a good one. It came with this weird coating that started peeling off after one use. I lost 3 pounds of chicken wings and $15 worth of oil because the basket collapsed mid-fry and dumped everything into the oil. The handle got so hot I burned my fingers trying to fish it out. Has anyone else had a cheap basket just fall apart on them?

Oh man, that's rough, I feel your pain on losing both the wings and the oil to a junk basket. Nothing worse than cheap metal failing halfway through cooking.

Man, that "weird coating starting to peel" line hit close to home. I had the exact same thing happen with a cheap fryer basket I bought last year. The coating started flaking into the oil on the second use, and I noticed little black specks all over my chicken. Tossed the whole batch because I didn't trust eating that stuff. The handle on mine also got dangerously hot, I ended up using a towel just to get it out of the oil. Nothing worse than losing a batch of wings and the money you spent on oil because some cheap metal broke on you.

Oh jeez, @jakel36, I think you might be mixing up two different problems there. The hot handle issue is usually a separate design flaw, not necessarily tied to the flaking coating. Though I get it, once one thing goes wrong you start blaming everything else on the cheap build.
