Found out the deleted ending for that 2012 space movie was filmed in one night
I was scrolling through the bonus features on the 4K disc and saw the alternate ending where the crew makes it back but the station is gone. Turns out they shot it in like 4 hours after the director changed his mind during reshoots. The lighting looks totally off compared to the rest of the film. Has anyone else noticed how rushed deleted endings usually look when they were last minute additions?
Heard a film podcast talk about this once, apparently the studio basically forced them to shoot a happier ending at the last second so it wouldn't be a total downer. You can totally tell too, the color grading is way off and everyone looks like they just ran a marathon. Wish they'd just kept the original, even if it meant a few too-bright scenes.
