Talked to an old fleet guy in Tulsa, now I double check every wiring harness
He told me he's seen three trucks brick themselves over chafed wires near the frame rail, all under 200k miles. Said he pulls harnesses loose and inspects them on every PM now, takes an extra 20 minutes. Anyone else started doing this after a close call or am I being paranoid?
Man, this hits home. Had a 2016 Cascadia last year that kept throwing weird codes and going into limp mode, and I chased sensors and ECM stuff for two weeks before I found the real problem. Wire bundle behind the air cleaner had rubbed through on a bracket, bare copper touching metal every time the truck flexed. Cost me a tow and a day of lost work over a 10 cent zip tie. Now I zip tie and loom everything I can reach and I pull the harnesses back at every oil change, takes me 15 minutes tops. Cheap insurance compared to a 3 grand towing bill and a fried module. That old fleet guy knows what he's talking about.
