PSA: I finally caved and got a local SIM card after years of wifi hopping
I thought hunting for free wifi was part of the adventure and saved money. Then I had a video call freeze up in a cafe, making me look super unprofessional. Now I buy a cheap data plan as soon as I arrive in a new country. It lets me work from parks or buses without stress, and my productivity shot up.

It's funny how we cling to those tiny savings (like hunting for wifi) thinking we're being smart, but the cost is usually our own time or a bit of our sanity. You see it everywhere, like refusing to pay for the better tool or skipping the travel insurance to save fifty bucks. That small upfront fee for a SIM card isn't just data, it's buying back your focus and avoiding those mini-crises. We're all slowly learning that reliable access is just part of the cost of doing things now, not a luxury.

That line about "buying back your focus" hits hard. I used to be the king of false savings (like refusing to buy the overpriced airport water and then getting a headache from dehydration two hours into a flight). I'm getting better, but my brain still tries to convince me that hunting for a free plug socket is a productive use of my time.

Totally, like trying to save five bucks on a coffee shop wifi password that never works, then you waste an hour trying to upload one file. It's the same with buying cheap luggage that breaks on the first trip. The stress and scrambling end up costing way more than just paying for the decent thing in the first place. We're basically paying extra in frustration.
