Walked into my grandma's old hardware store last week and saw nothing but pre-made shelves and caulk tubes

They used to have wooden dowels in bins you could sort through yourself, now it's all plastic packaging and nobody under 40 even asks for a hand saw.

And the bins themselves used to be this heavy oak, now it's all flimsy wire racks that wiggle when you touch em.

Yeah but those wire racks are way easier to clean behind, the old wood ones trapped dust forever.

Funny enough I used to swear by the wood racks. Thought they looked nicer and felt more solid. But you're totally right about the dust thing, I never realized how much crud was building up behind them until I swapped one out last year and found a whole ecosystem back there. The wire ones you can just spray down and it's done in two seconds, no scrubbing. Changed my mind completely on that.
