Blew $600 on a digital level that sits in the truck

Two years ago I picked up one of those fancy electronic levels with the digital readout, thought it would save me time on layout. Used it exactly twice before the battery compartment got sawdust jammed and it stopped working right. My old 4-foot aluminum bubble level cost me $40 and has been dropped off ladders more times than I can count. Anyone else find that the old school stuff just works better for daily use?

I'll admit I used to be all about the digital stuff, figured it was the future and all that. But then I borrowed a buddy's laser level one weekend and the thing just kept giving me false readings because the battery was low. My old $30 torpedo level has never done that to me. It's weird how we're quick to ditch the simple tools that never let us down.

That battery dying thing is exactly why I keep a spare set of AAs taped to the back of my laser level. Learned that lesson the hard way when I was halfway through hanging cabinets and the line started drifting. Now I swap batteries before every job, even if it was working fine last time. Saves so much headache.
