Question about a tricky tolerance callout on a recent assembly drawing

I was detailing a bracket for a machine frame last week, and the callout for a true position tolerance on a set of four bolt holes just would not work. The software kept flagging it as an invalid datum reference. I spent close to three hours checking the feature control frame, the datum features, and the order of precedence. Turns out I had accidentally selected a datum axis from a different, unrelated part that was still open in another file. Once I closed that extra file and rebuilt the callout from scratch, it worked perfectly. Has anyone else had a similar issue with cross-file references causing trouble?

Honestly I kinda disagree, sometimes that feeling is a weird wake up call. Like it forces you to slow down for a second. @the_fiona maybe it ruined your afternoon but it probably saved you from something worse later. It's annoying for sure but not the end of the world, you just deal with it and move on.
