Rant: I thought that free online CAD course was a waste of time

Took it on a whim last winter and the section on parametric modeling finally clicked after I tried it on a real project in Toledo. What's a skill you were wrong about at first?

Oh man, this is so true! I've noticed a lot of skills are like that. You learn the basic steps in a class or a video and it just feels pointless and clunky. Then you're forced to use it for something you actually care about, and suddenly your brain puts it all together. It's like the real world pressure and the personal project makes it stick. Happened to me with learning how to properly use a spreadsheet. Felt like boring number boxes until I needed it to plan a big group trip.

Right? The pressure makes it click. @emma_wood, your spreadsheet story is the perfect example. It's all just theory until you have a real problem to solve, like splitting costs for that trip. My guitar lessons were the same, totally boring drills until I wanted to learn one specific song. Then all the chords finally made sense because I needed them.

Totally get that, it's like your brain needs a real reason to learn. Same thing happened when I tried to learn photo editing, all the tools were confusing until I had to fix some pics for a project. @emma_wood's spreadsheet thing is spot on.
