That old timer's pump advice saved my drag in Green Bay
Last week a retired operator from the 70s told me to run my cutterhead slower when the clay gets sticky, said the dredge will do the work if you let it. I ignored him at first because my flow numbers looked fine, but after 3 hours I had a clogged suction line and lost half the day on the Fox River. He saw me cussing and just laughed, then showed me how to feather the throttle at 28 rpm instead of 45. Whole shift went smooth after that, moved 20% more material by weight. Anyone else got old-timer tricks that beat what the manual says? I'm all ears for the next sticky patch.

Feather the throttle at 28 rpm" sounds like a great way to turn a month-long job into a six-month one if you ask me. Slow and steady wins the race until the clay packs tighter and you're digging yourself out of a bigger hole than before.
