Turns out the odd shudder in my ladder pump wasn't ghosts

We were pulling sediment in a river bend when the whole dredge started shaking like a washing machine off balance. I spent two shifts checking every bolt and joint I could reach, with no luck. Finally, I shut it down and waded out to feel the ladder by hand. Found a chunk of concrete wedged between the cutter head and the pump housing, probably from some old construction dump. Pulled it free with a crowbar, and the shudder stopped immediately. Lesson learned: sometimes the problem is just a rock in the wrong place. What's your go-to method for checking for hidden debris before it causes a shake-up?

Chunk of concrete? We once pulled a bike frame from a screen.

That bike frame story really hits home. It's wild how something so random can jam up a whole operation, and it reminds me of how my car started making this awful noise last week just from a pebble in the brake shield. We focus so much on the big parts but it's often the tiny, ignored things that cause the real drama. For checking debris, I'm a big believer in stopping and actually looking with your eyes and hands, no shortcuts. It's a pain but it beats fixing a bigger mess later. This whole thing is just a good reminder to check the small stuff before it shakes everything apart.
