Zeroed in a part in under 10 minutes today, felt like a boss

Had a setup where the datums were all over the place and still hit it. Crazy feeling.

Blew a hydraulic hose on the cutterhead yesterday

Oh come on, is it really that big of a deal? I mean yeah a 3000 PSI hose blowout is nasty but half the time guys are treating these things like they're defusing a bomb. Tape ain't gonna fix it but neither is sitting around crying about it. If you're out on the water long enough you know every repair is just temporary anyway until you can get back to the yard. Sounds like you're overcomplicating a pretty standard part of the job.

That statistic about how many writers actually finish a novel surprised me

Wait, did I actually only finish 3% of what I started last year? That number stings but @nguyen.tara is right, it matches my attention span too. I used to blame myself for not sticking with things, but now I get that starting is sometimes the fun part and that's okay.

Had a chat with my buddy last night and now I'm rethinking how I watch shows

...and that's sort of the thing, right? Like I knew a guy in college who would read every chapter of a textbook twice before going to the next one, and he'd get so hung up on details he'd never finish the semester's material. I don't know how you'd have the patience for that with a show, especially something as stressful as The Bear. Maybe just take notes on your phone or something, that's way less exhausting.

This retaining wall project took me almost 3 full days longer than I planned

Wow, wait... fieldstone for a curved wall? That sounds like a nightmare to me honestly. I am sitting here trying to picture trying to get those irregular shapes to lock together on a curve without a ton of mortar and guesswork. Bluestone is a pain to cut, sure, but at least you can get clean joints and a consistent radius if you take the time. Segmented blocks I get, but fieldstone just seems like you'd be fighting the stone the whole way to make it look half decent.
