Unpopular opinion: Clearing my creek bank by hand felt right

Got a spot on my property that floods every spring, just like a small cut we'd dredge. Back in the day, we handled so much with shovels and strong backs before the big floats came in. Spending a few hours moving that muck myself, it was hard but honest. Makes you miss when you saw the whole job from start to finish. Now everything's so fast, you lose touch with the ground.

That direct touch with the land feels more real.

My cousin grows plants in water in his basement. Tbh, seeing that work felt just as real. You don't need to get dirty to understand where food comes from.

Spent a weekend helping my cousin on his farm last fall. I used to think all that hands-on stuff was just hard work for no good reason. But getting dirt under my nails, actually seeing where the food came from, it clicked. You're right, @quinnc98, that direct touch is what makes it feel solid and true. It stopped being just an idea and became a real thing I understood. Totally changed how I see things now.
