Just realized my taping knife angle was wrong after 8 years

I was on a job in Tacoma last month, finishing a hallway ceiling, and the old guy I sub for walks over and asks why I'm holding the knife so steep. I told him it's how I always did it, but he grabbed my hand and tilted it back maybe 10 degrees. The mud smoothed out like butter and I stopped getting those little ridges on every pass. Has anyone else had a simple grip tweak that fixed a problem you didn't know you had?
