Rant: Local crew vs. out-of-town contractor on a St. Albert reno, one was brutally better

We had two quotes for a 14 foot retaining wall, the Edmonton guy came in 3 days early and finished with zero change orders while the Sherwood Park company sent a kid who showed up hungover and left our yard looking like a war zone, has anyone else seen this huge gap between local knowledge and the drive-in outfits?

You said "local knowledge" but I gotta push back on that a little. In my experience, the gap is less about Edmonton vs Sherwood Park and more about who actually shows up to sell the job versus who shows up to work it. Some of the best trades I've dealt with are out of town, and some of the worst are five minutes from my house. Your luck really comes down to the specific crew, not their postal code. That hungover kid could've been hired by a local company just as easily, trust me. Take your win though, a clean job with no change orders is a unicorn these days.
