Watched a crew in Charlotte keep adjusting the door operator clutch way too tight

They were cranking it down to stop a bounce, but that just burns out the motor and wears the vane. I've seen it cause a full motor replacement after about 8 months. How do you guys usually diagnose a real door bounce issue?

Honestly, that clutch trick is such a band-aid fix. The real bounce usually comes from worn guide rollers or a messed up header seal. I always check the top section first, because if the door is hitting a bad seal on the way up, it'll kick back every time. Then you gotta look at the spring tension, a weak spring will make it drop and bounce at the bottom too. Cranking the clutch just hides all that until the motor fries.

So when you check the top seal, are you looking for a specific kind of wear? Like a permanent dent in the vinyl from the door hitting it, or just general cracking? I've seen some that look fine until you run your hand over them and feel a hard spot.

Yeah, both actually - the dent and the hard spot mean it's shot.
