Saw a pop-up event at a laundromat in Austin and it made me think
I walked into this laundromat on East 6th last Saturday and there was a full coffee tasting set up near the dryers. They had 40 people there sipping espresso while waiting for their wash. Has anyone else tried doing a small event in a weird space like that?

The one pop-up I went to was a taco stand in a car wash parking lot and I burned my tongue on the salsa so bad I couldn't taste my own clothes for a week. That coffee idea sounds way safer honestly, at least you can't scald yourself on a latte if you're careful. I'd probably still find a way though, I once tripped over a laundry basket and spilled an entire pour-over on my jeans before I even got my quarters in the machine. The whole place smelling like coffee and detergent might be cozy for other people but for me it would just remind me of the time I accidentally brewed my socks instead of beans. More power to them for trying something different, my laundromat just has a broken vending machine and a guy yelling at the dryer.

Has anyone else tried something like this? It sounds like a nice way to make a boring chore feel special, and I bet the coffee smell mixed with detergent is kind of cozy. Good for the laundromat for thinking outside the box, these small pop-ups can really bring a neighborhood together.

Honestly @taylor.amy you nailed it with "small pop-ups can really bring a neighborhood together." I'm always a sucker for stuff like this because I'll try anything to make doing laundry less of a drag. Tbh last time I tried to spice up laundry day I just spilled half a latte into the dryer and spent an hour scrubbing coffee stains off my socks. But the coffee and detergent combo actually sounds like it could work, not gonna lie. I bet the whole place smells like a hipster bakery for an hour. Ngl I'm tempted to petition my laundromat to try this just so I have an excuse to hang out and people watch while my clothes spin.
