That stat about AI voice scams doubling in 2024 kinda freaked me out

Was reading this report from the FTC the other day and they said something like 40% of people reported getting a scam call using a cloned voice last year. That's way higher than I thought. My dad almost fell for one where someone pretended to be my brother asking for bail money. Guess my question is do you think this is just a panic that'll fade once people get savvier or are we stuck dealing with this for good?

Oh yeah, "that stat about AI voice scams doubling in 2024 kinda freaked me out" is an understatement. I had something similar happen. My grandma got a call from someone using my cousin's voice saying he was in a car accident and needed money for a tow. She almost wired them 500 bucks before my aunt got to her phone. It's not going away, @jenniferw82, I'm pretty sure we're stuck dealing with this for good. People are getting savvier for sure, but these scammers are getting better too, and there's always someone who hasn't heard about it yet. Feels like we're all just running to catch up while they keep moving the goalposts.

Is my "this is fine" meme gonna be outdated by then?
