Honestly, overheard a guy at the lumber yard say he uses instant coffee to touch up dark walnut stains. Tried it on a test piece and it actually works.

My old roommate tried the instant coffee trick on a beige couch. It looked okay for a week until the whole patch turned crusty and darker than the rest. You have to mix it with just a bit of water and dab, not pour. What color was the stain you're dealing with?
