I used to think those fancy diamond hole saws for glass were just overpriced hype.

But after burning through three cheap ones on a single 2-inch hole in a 3/4-inch thick shower door, I finally bought a Diablo one and it cut clean in under a minute. Anyone have a cheaper brand that actually holds up?

Ever try using a spray bottle with water and dish soap to keep the bit cool? I found the cheap ones can work okay if you go slow and keep them from overheating, but you have to baby them the whole time. That Diablo bit is probably just better steel that can take the heat. Sometimes the cheap ones are just a false economy, you know?

Honestly used to grab whatever cheap bit was on sale, figuring they were all the same. Burnt through so many on a single project it was ridiculous. That spray bottle trick does help a little, but you're right, you end up babysitting the tool more than actually working. Finally caved and got a decent bit like that Diablo one last year, and the difference is night and day. It just keeps going.

Ngl @harper_cooper21, that's just how it goes with so many things now. You buy the cheap version twice before you learn to just get the good thing once.
