Can we talk about a design podcast I heard at the gym?

I was listening to 'The Deep End' podcast yesterday and the host said 'good design should be felt, not just seen.' It made me realize I focus too much on how my layouts look and not how they make a user feel. Has anyone else had a moment that shifted how you approach a project's mood?

Try putting your mockup away and just describing the feeling you want it to give.

Oh wow, that's such a good point! I started doing quick user interviews just asking how a mockup made them feel, and it totally changed my color choices. It's easy to forget the emotional side.

My last project had 5 people tell me a blue felt "cold" which was wild. @jamesm48 is right about focusing on the feeling first.
