My quiet Greek island find has me split on seeking out hidden eateries or going with known places

Last year, I spent a week on a small Greek island that's not on the usual tourist path. I found a little family place by the water that served amazing fresh fish and local salad for almost nothing. It felt like a real slice of island life. But then in a bigger city, I ate at a spot all the travel sites praise. The food was fine, but it cost a lot and was packed with visitors. So here's my debate: is it better to hunt for these off-the-radar food joints when traveling, or just hit the famous ones you know will be decent? The hidden spots can give you a unique meal, but sometimes they're hard to find or not consistent. I'd love to hear what others think. Do you gamble on unknown places or play it safe?

That "hard to find" thing once led me to a PERFECT little burger joint.

Oh totally! The best part is feeling like you cracked a code, then getting to text your friends "okay I found the spot" like it's some big secret.

You mentioned hidden spots can be "hard to find or not consistent." How do you balance that risk against the unique experience when you're actually there and hungry?
