Rant: I used to overlook so many cool places

I mean, idk, maybe it's just me but learning to scan for small markers on maps helped. Now I find spots like a tucked-away waterfall most drive right past.

Totally! That's a thing way beyond maps too. I swear most people are on autopilot for their whole dang lives. They see the same streets and same buildings but never really look at the details, like the cool old stonework on a house or a weird little shop tucked in an alley. Getting good at spotting one hidden thing trains your brain to scan for others everywhere. It's like you finally woke up to how much you were missing right in front of you.

Yeah I had to learn to let some things blur out again after that initial scan. Like okay cool I saw the weird fence design, now back to my podcast. You find a balance?

You're right about how spotting one thing trains your brain to look for more. But once that switch flips, it's hard to go back. You start seeing patterns and oddities everywhere, even when you don't want to. It's like your mind is always on alert, picking up on cracks in the sidewalk or the way people arrange their desks. So waking up from autopilot isn't just about seeing more beauty, it's about dealing with a constant feed of information. Sometimes I miss just zoning out on my commute instead of analyzing every little detail.
