Neighbor got annoyed I didn't mention my patio reno. My family thinks I should have, I say it's my place. What's your rule on this?

Lol, since when do we need permission slips for our own yards? Your neighbor needs to chill, it's not like you built a zombie moat. My rule is simple: if it's on my property, I don't owe anyone a heads up. Unless you're planning to host a rave every night, keep your projects to yourself. People get too nosy about stuff that doesn't affect them. Just smile and nod if they complain again.

Totally with @margaretr34 on the zombie moat principle. That logic extends to how often people hide behind "property values" to complain about normal home stuff they just don't like. At the end of the day, your patio isn't their business unless you're blocking their sun or something real.

What makes them think they deserve a notice? Your house, your call. No need to report every little thing. If it's on your property, it's your business alone. Their annoyance is just noise. Ignore it and keep doing what you want. People need to focus on their own yards.
